Debora has been a Fencers Club Veteran on Guard (VOG) since 2013. Here's what she says about the program and the FC community:

"I love fencing, and the program that we entered into. I knew immediately that this would be a good vehicle for Veterans to engage, exercise, and congregate with each other through sports. We as Vets need a forum to engage – mentally, physically, socially, economically, and holistically. Through sports, we lift each other up in a way that cannot be otherwise be achieved.

We have always been accepted as a part of the Fencers Club as a whole, and it has been great for the Vets who participate. We fence through the Veterans Day Parade each year, which, in itself, is a huge accomplishment. The program has remained consistent in participation and growth, and I know that it has helped so many Vets who have participated. Thank you – to the Fencers Club – for taking on this venture. I'm simply a vessel to try to impact change, but I could not do any of this without your full willingness and commitment year after year to bring Veterans into the Fencers Club.

I appreciate the open and welcome atmosphere that the club has always presented. We fence alongside the top competitive fencers and Olympians in the world, but we are never made to feel inferior, or less than what we are. We have always been welcomed as just another member of the club. My experience has always been one of inclusiveness. I advocate for this program because I believe in it, and I know that it will continue to be a mainstay for Vets for many years to come."
